Hiring a designer is always recommended in establishing the look of your brand, but for many solo entrepreneurs and small businesses, there is not much of a budget for designs after that.

Moreover, it is no longer an option for businesses to exist outside of the digital landscape. This means websites and social media accounts are an absolute requirement for businesses, and along with that comes a need for brand images. Ideally, the images you share will build a stronger brand identity for your customers and clients.

So, how can businesses compete with a limited budget in a visually-driven world? Especially without access to a designer? No need to worry, there are tools to help with that!

My two favorite tools for non-designers are Adobe Spark and Canva. Both offer free services, but I do recommend paying for an account if you are able. The added resources and tools are worth the small monthly investment.

Hopefully, you started your branding process with a good designer that helped you create a strong foundation for your brand identity. You should have identified colors and fonts that are a part of your logo and other branding tools. Bonus points if part of your branding process included creating a vision board.

In your editing tool of choice, set up your brand. This includes adding your brand assets to the tool. In Canva it is called a Brand Kit, in Adobe Spark it is simply Brand. You can also add your logo variations, establish your color palette, and set your fonts. If you use a custom font, you can upload it directly to the tool (be sure to read through the license agreements for your font first!).

Once your brand is set up, you can start designing graphics. I suggest using the tool’s suggested designs as a starting point for your work. As you create different visuals, use consistency between your designs - stick with the same fonts, filter all photos the same way, always add your logo. While these may feel limiting, at times, doing so will really help tell your brand story and create a deep connection and trust with your audience.

As always, if you need some help getting started, you can reach out to us for help! We offer 1 on 1 coaching and consulting services to help clients get comfortable with these tools.
